Dr. Suzanne Soehner is a licensed acupuncturist and Doctor of Oriental Medicine practicing in New York City.  Dr. Soehner was part of the first wave of Americans to study Chinese medicine in the 1970’s.  She began her studies with a Korean master acupuncturist in Los Angeles who was teaching a small group of interested students at that time.  In 1979, SAMRA University, one of the first acupuncture schools in the country, was established in Los Angeles and Dr. Soehner was in the opening class of the school.  She graduated and became licensed to practice acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 1983 and in 1985 was awarded the advanced degree, Doctor of Oriental Medicine, from SAMRA.  Dr. Soehner maintained a busy practice in Santa Monica, California, specializing in all phases of women’s health and internal medicine.  In 2000, Dr. Soehner relocated to New York where she was born and raised to be near her family.  Dr. Soehner was introduced to Julie Puretz through Jeffrey Yuen, who had referred Julie to Suzanne for treatment during Julie’s valiant fight with an aggressive form of breast cancer.  After Julie passed, her family invited Dr. Soehner to become a member of the Board of Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine, where she has been honored to serve ever since.  Dr. Soehner maintains a private practice in New York City, and is currently also working at The Project for Survivors of Torture at NYU Bellevue Hospital providing anti-stress acupuncture treatments to the staff of doctors, psychologists, social workers and staff of the program.  This program provides psychiatric and medical care, legal help and social work to victims of torture and persecution from all over the world who have found sanctuary in New York City.
