Use of Essential Oils in the Chinese Medical Treatment of Epidemics

Register early! Class sizes are limited

Program Description

Throughout history, all cultures have been exposed to recurring and emerging pestilent factors that, in some cases, have evolved into major infectious and communicable diseases.  Challenged by these deadly epidemics, each culture has developed approaches within their medical paradigm to address the prevention, management, and treatment of such conditions.  Within Chinese medicine, various traditions have been founded specifically to deal with epidemics.  From the Han Dynasty comes the school of Shang Han, the new ideas pertaining to Gan Mao from the Song Dynasty, and from the collective Wen Bing tradition of the Ming-Qing Dynasties.  In this two-day course, participants will be guided through an understanding of the etiology, pathology, and differential diagnosis of epidemics from gu-parasites, zhang-miasms, to li-pestilence. Recognizing the infectious nature of these conditions, the practice of fumigation and the use of spices to fully expel the pathogens were practiced with aromatic substances.  The focus of this workshop is to introduce participants to the proper use of aromatic essential oils and how this modality can be integrated into the prevention, management, and treatment of epidemics.

Current practitioners will receive thirteen (13) continuing education units (PDA points) for completion of the class. A CEU certificate of completion will be given at the end of the CEU. Attendees must attend both classes in its entirety to receive the certificate.

Attendance for both days is required to receive PDA credits from NCCAOM.

Licensed Acupuncturists must provide their license number when registering for this event.
